Behind The Scenes of Running A Travel Blog

Let's Talk About What It REALLY Takes to Build an Online Business...

Hi Friends!

Last week, I told you how I would be pulling back the curtain on 5 controversial things I've done that have helped me grow and monetize my travel blog - and today, we're diving into the first one! I can't lie - as much as I love writing travel content, I've been SO excited to give you an inside look at how I run my business!

Controversial Business Strategy #1:
I Don't Outsource My Content

From Day 1 of Gina on a Plane, I have been a one-woman show. Back in 2022, I built my own website from scratch, and still manage the back-end updates and technical stuff.

Since then, I have done EVERYTHING - writing, content planning, content strategy, travel photography, photo editing, Pinterest, social media, email marketing, tracking analytics, etc - by myself.

(And not only that...I do it all on top of working a full-time job.)

If you're thinking, "wow, that's a LOT!" - well, you're right. But hey, I warned you this series was controversial 😉.

The Reason I Don't Delegate Tasks...

...is because every skill I learn becomes an asset. The more I know how to do as a business owner, the more valuable I become - not just to my own business, but to other people. Every new skill is something I can eventually teach, use to help someone else, or turn into another income stream.

The web design and content strategy skills I've learned while growing my travel blog have opened doors to helping other entrepreneurs build websites that actually work. Had I outsourced those things from the beginning, I never would have developed the skills that are creating opportunities for me today.

I also wanted to save as much money as possible when I was just starting out, and one of the easiest ways to do this was to do everything myself!

Don't get me wrong...I plan on outsourcing some things eventually. But the most important parts of my content - the writing, the photos, and the authenticity - will all still come from me.

Coming This Week: Controversial Business Strategy #2

Later this week, I'll be sharing the 2nd unconventional business strategy that has helped me become a trusted source for my readers and followers. It's something I believe has played a huge role in building a loyal audience and a brand people genuinely connect with. In the meantime, feel free to reply to this email with any questions you have!

Gina on a Plane - Travel Blog

Oh hi! I'm Gina. I create aesthetic travel guides and itineraries for women who want to see the world (and look good doing it). Additionally, I also coach solo female travelers to feel confident exploring the world on their own. I plan the kind of trips where every stop feels like a main character moment—equal parts iconic, effortless, and very well-documented. Consider me your unofficial travel planner, hype girl, and “should we get another glass?” enabler.
